The 2025 TotalEnergies Lusaka Half Marathon will go ahead in June after the event organisers Lusaka Fitness Club and Zambia Athletics resolve a scheduling conflict on the race.
On Monday, ZA issued a statement disowning the Lusaka event and Kitwe Marathon due to be held on June 28 in the respective cities as they are not sanctioned by the athletes’ motherbody nor do the two races appear on the June calendar of events.
Lusaka Fitness Club general secretary Richard Katongo said in an interview yesterday with Revelation Sports that they held a meeting with ZA on Monday who gave the go-ahead for the events.
“We have had a series of mutually respectful and constructive meetings with our distinguished regulator, the Zambia Athletics, and we have been able to find an amicable solution that is in the interest of all involved parties,” Katongo said.
“With the blessings of the ZA, the event shall be held on 28 June as earlier planned and announced. As the Lusaka Fitness Squad, we value the counsel and critical role that ZA plays and holds in the running ecosystem in Zambia and our commitment to ensure that we remain compliant to the federation, as we have done over the years, remains strong.
“Our resolve is to deepen the already cordial relationship that exists between our two organizations. We are happy that this issue has been resolved in a progressive manner.”
