The Zambia Police says doing things outside the law by anyone, will not be tolerated.
Last week, at a press briefing former president Edgar Lungu said the PF will fight the battle using available means, legal, political options and that beyond this, he does not know.
President Lungu accused the police of endorsing the illegalities in PF against their lawful mandate of keeping law and order.
The former head of state also said the police were among the institutions of governance that are compromised.
At the same event, PF national chairman Christopher Kang’ombe said if the courts of law will not give the PF justice, the party will give itself justice.
Speaking to Daily Revelation in an interview, Zambia Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said that any illegality from any one will not be taken lightly because its mandate is to enforce the law, as well as maintaining law and order.
“Any illegality will not be tolerated by the Zambia Police after all the police are there to enforce the law and maintain law and order. Simple as that. If people want to start committing illegalities, we will arrest them. The law is very clear. No one is above the law. If you have any grievance regarding the operations of the police, go to the courts of law. The courts of law will give a ruling. And if you want to do otherwise, that is why the law is there,” Hamoonga said.
He said people should not just be hallucinating, saying those who are aggrieved about the operations of the police should go to court.
“We have said it time and again that if you have any grievances relating to the operations of the police, if you have any grievances, that is why the courts of law are there okay,” Hamoonga said. “You don’t just stand on an anti-hill and start hallucinating, go to the courts of law, they will adjudicate over the matter and make a ruling then that’s it. As simple as that.”
Hamoonga said those who want to do things outside the law, will be arrested as the police are there to ensure that everything is done in accordance with the law.
“If you commit an offence, we will arrest you. We will not get tired of arresting those who commit offences because that is our job. We have nothing to do with people who are just talking, but those who are going to commit offences. If in your talking you commit an offence, we will arrest you. If you’re talking amounts to an offence, they will arrest you. If you commit an offence by way of your actions, you will be arrested,” said Hamoonga.
He added that law-abiding citizens will continue to enjoy their freedom.
