Central Province permanent secretary Bernard Chomba has expressed disappointment at the work attitude by local contractors that have been engaged to work on township roads I the Region.
And Central Province permanent secretary Bernard Chomba has threatened that government will not hesitate to terminate contracts for Zambian local contractors that fail to honour their contractual obligations.
In an interview with Daily Revelation in Kapiri Mposhi district, Chomba, has explained that most road projects in Central Province have stalled owing to the fact that most “locally contractors have been, and disappointingly; been failing to honour their obligations when it comes road construction projects in Central Province.”
He explained that most local contractors that have been engaged by government to work on the roadworks have “abandoned because our own local contractors have been failing us.”

Chomba, however, expressed optimism that the PF government will accelerate the rehabilitation of feeder roads as well as the township roads in Central Province.
He stated that the Patriotic Front is committed to ensuring that all districts open up to the roads that, will in turn lead, to economic development in the country.
“However, the Patriotic Front government is very much determineed that we continue working on those roads. Funds are readily available, and we will ensure that we work on those roads,” said Chomba.
Chomba threatened that government will not hesitate to terminate contracts for Zambian local contractors that fail to honour their contractual obligations.
He said that foreign road contractors have been executing their road rehabilitation contracts in an efficient and effective manner; as opposed to Zambian local contractors.
“Whilst government appreciates the fact that our Zambian local contractors are supposed to be empowered and given priority when it comes to being awarded road rehabilitation contracts; we wish to state, in an categorical term that government will not hesitate to terminate contracts for our local contractors that are failing to honour their contractual obligations… and frustrating government implementation projects,” said Chomba.
