Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga has refused to comment on information that police arrested former president Edgar Lungu’s Aide de Camp (ADC), Chanda Chisanga, in order to establish a smoking gun as the gun which shot Lawrence Banda allegedly emanated from the State House armory.
On February 07, Police in Lusaka have formerly charged and arrested deputy commissioner of police Chanda, aged 53 of House Number 8004 Brentwood Woodlands in Lusaka Province for the alleged offence of being an accessory after the fact to a felony Contrary to Sections 397 (1) and 398 of the Penal Code Act Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
It is alleged that Chanda on unknown date, but between the 1st October, 2019 and 4th February, 2022 in Lusaka Province of the Republic of Zambia, did receive or assist a wanted suspect.
Well placed sources have told Daily Revelation that the police picked up Chanda in order to find a smoking gun.
“Of course you are aware now that Shebby Chilekwa, the barber to the former president has already been charged with the murder of UPND cadre Lawrence Banda during a violent incident in Kaoma,” sources said. “There was information that he was shot by a gun that could have been drawn from the State House armory. So they need to find a smoking gun. That is why they picked up the deputy commissioner of police.”
Contacted by Daily Revelation on information that Chanda was being investigated to establish a smoking gun over the gun which was used to kill Banda, Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said he did not have that information.
“Secondly, the issue of that investigation is still in court. So we can’t comment, not until the matter is disposed off the courts of law,” said Hamoonga.
