Political analyst Dr Alex Ng’oma has urged the Patriot Front to bring in fresh faces in their leadership.
In an interview, Dr Ng’oma said that the PF membership should elect that appear not to be connected to the party that was rejected by the Zambian people.
“What they have told this nation is that they are undergoing the rebranding process. Rebranding, in simple language, means having a fresh start and making a clean break from the past. So, they cannot definitely continue on the same path if they are rebranding,” said Dr Ng’oma, who is also a lecturer at the University of Zambia. “They need to elect new leaders, especially those that appear not to be connected to the party that was rejected. They need to bring fresh faces into public office. Those that will make the people of Zambia give them a second chance. Leaders that will be regarded as being attractive to the people. The problem we have in Zambia is that some politicians want to die in political office, even when the odds are against them. That will put a force nail in the coffin of the PF.”
Asked for his opinion on the PF holding or postponing the impending general conference, Dr Ng’oma advised the former ruling party’s general membership to ensure that they conduct their political activities in tandem with the party Constitution.
“My advice to the PF is very, very specific. Let them look to the Constitution and see what the party Constitution says about holding national conferences. If the Constitution says that the right to hold the general conference, then the issue of holding the general conference is non negotiable,” said Dr Ng’oma. “Let them go ahead and do that. Why should they ignore the Constitutional process? They have a party Constitution that they should always refer to.”
