Republican Vice-President Mutale Nalumango has demanded that those aspiring for the PF presidency and all the political parties in the country should make their position known on gay rights
Speaking during the Vice-President oral and answer session in parliament this morning, Vice-President Nalumango said the UPND has made it very clear, even during their time in the opposition when they were being accused of embracing gay rights that they do not support gay rights.
She challenged all those who are aspiring for the PF presidency to state their position on gay rights, including “every political leader.”
“Everybody must state. Zambians demand. We have been put under fire for nothing for so long. My President made it very clear,” Vice-President Nalumango said.
She said some foreign embassies have flown the gay pride flags in the past in Zambia, but wondered where the PF leaders were not to condemn the same.
“You were in government, what did you do about it?” Vice-President Nalumango asked, saying international law forbade any interference in the operations of other embassies and that “they did not fly it (gay flag) on the Zambian land.”
And responding to leader of the opposition in parliament Brian Mundubile who asked if the the the idea of hosting AFRICOM in Zambia was not putting the country in bad light in the SADC region where the same has been rejected, Vice-President Nalumango described news surrounding AFRICOM as disinformation, but added that Zambia was a sovereign nation, saying there were issues happening in the SADC region which Zambia did not subscribe to “but we are still members of SADC.”
She said what has been established is the office of security cooperation in the USA Embassy aimed at enhancing military to military cooperation, and that the country has no intention of hosting any USA base in the country.
