The Ngambela of the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) Mukela Manyando says the Indunas and chiefs in Western Province finalised their deliberations and will give a position today over the raging debate in the country following President Hakainde Hichilema’s recent remarks that there is no country called Barotseland.
Impeccable sources told Daily Revelation last week that the Kuta had summoned all the indunas and chiefs in the region for deliberations to give an appropriate response over the Barotse matter, something Manyando said they have finalised.
Asked to comment on information that among the resolutions included a resolution that no one should be heard mentioning Western Province from now onwards but instead they must refer to the region as Barotseland, Manyando said he would not want to divulge anything for now until the statement is issued.
“That will be covered in the statement that is being prepared,” he said.
Manyando said the country will hear from the BRE tomorrow morning, stressing that “we have agreed that we shall communicate.”
“We the BRE, we want the media to be around with us, not only things like this one but even in other routine issues, we would like the press to be on our side,” Manyando said. “Whatever pronouncements we make it will be made available … We shall do our best to let you know and everybody else know about the meeting we had. It finished the day before yesterday. So don’t worry, we shall communicate.”
Sources said President Hichilema’s remarks did not sit well with the people in the region, as many have come out to assert their feelings on the matter.
The Kuta last week summoned all the chiefs and indunas in the region to deliberate on the matter in order to give an appropriate response to the President on the matter.
