62 individuals have been arrested and are currently detained for idle and disorderly conduct, after police conducted a collaborative operation in Mtendere and Kalikiliki Compounds, according to police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga.
In a police statement, Hamoonga stated that the 62 were arrested after police conducted a collaborative operation to apprehend those involved in criminal activities popularly known as junkies.
‘’On February 3, 2024, between 09:30 and 16:00, conducted a collaborative operation to apprehend individuals engaged in criminal activities commonly known as junkies. The targeted areas were Kalikiliki Compound and Mtendere East,” Hamoonga stated.
‘’The joint operation yielded success, resulting in the arrest of 62 individuals aged between 20 and 40, comprising 61 males and 1 female. All the arrested persons are currently facing charges of idle and disorderly conduct.”
The arrested individuals are currently undergoing screening for additional offences and currently detained at Mtendere Police Station and Kalikiliki Police post.
The junkies have been involved in several crimes including killings, beatings, robbery and generally terrorrising innocent members of the public.
