Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) leader Sean Tembo says the UPND government has weaponised the fight against corruption.
And Tembo has said President Hakainde Hichilema has lost credibility owing to his failure to honour his campaign promises.
Tembo, in an interview with Daily Revelation, said the UPND government is using the fight against corruption to harass and intimidate political opponents and dispose them of their hard earned property, without a semblance of the due process of the law.
“In other words, the current fight against corruption is laughable. In fact, the fight against corruption has now been weaponised and is used to harass and intimidate political opponents, and disposes them of their hard-earned property without a semblance of the due process of the law,” Tembo said.
He said existing corruption was swept under the carpet, much to the detriment of the economy.
Tembo said corruption was a cancer and for as long as the corrupt are the ones that are responsible for fighting corruption, then the country was going nowhere.
He also said Hakainde Hichilema has lost credibility owing to his failure to honour his campaign promises.
He said President Hichilema has been making pronouncements “without walking the talk.”
He recalled that the Head of State was on record of having said that the UPND administration would withdraw VX luxury vehicles, but that pronouncement had not been actualised.
“The Zambian people have lost faith in President Hakainde Hichilema because he has failed to walk the talk when it comes to actualising his pronouncements that he has been making publicly. President Hakainde Hichilema has lost credibility largely because of his failure to honour his campaign promises. The Head of State is failing to stick to what he says, which is extremely regrettable,” said Tembo.
