HESLB adds 1,495 UNZA students to loan scheme

The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board (HESLB) has awarded additional student loans to 1,495 first year students at the University of Zambia (UNZA) for the 2023/2024 academic year.

In a statement HESLB senior corporate communications officer Chiselwa Kawanda explained that the board received 1,611 appeals for student loan awards at UNZA.

Kawanda stated that out of 1,611 applications received, 675 applied for science based programmes while 820 applied under art based programmes representing a ratio of 45 percent to 55 percent.

Kawanda stated that the additional award brings the total number of students awarded loans at UNZA to 4,184 first year students for the academic year.

She stated that a total of 5,094 applications were received by the closing date which was November 17, 2023.

“Out of the 5,094 applicants received, 5,012 applicants were eligible for the award of student loans.  Out of the eligible students, 2, 689 were awarded in December 2023.

HESLB advertised for loans to first year students admitted to UNZA for the 2023/2024 academic year.
