Police have arrested a man of Mungule area in Lusaka for allegedly having sex with 10-year-old biological daughter.
The 39-year-old only identified as Phiri has been charged with the offence of incest.
Phiri is alleged to have defiled his daughter on March 10, 2024 around 23:00 hours in his house while his wife was having prayers at the neighbour’s house.
However, it is reported that Phiri ran away after he was found in the act by his wife.
“The incident was reported to Police and investigations revealed that the victim, on March 10, 2024 around 21:00 hours, went out together with her mother for prayers at the neighbour’s house within Mungule area. While having prayers, her mother remembered that she had left some food cooking on the fire and decided to send the daughter to check on it,” deputy police public relations Danny Mwale explained.
“The daughter went home where she found the father seated in the living room. It is alleged that while she was checking on the food, her father grabbed and defiled her.”
He stated that the mother, upon realising that the daughter had taken long, decided to follow, only to find her husband having carnal knowledge of their daughter.
Mwale stated that the wife quickly rushed to alert the neighbours who went and found the suspect had run away.
He stated that the victim was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) where she received medical attention and later discharged while her condition is said to be stable.
Mwale also stated that Phiri was apprehended and handed over to Police by concerned members of the community in Mungule area on March 16, 2024 around 17:00 hours and is in Police custody waiting to be formally charged.
