Police have summoned Florence Solochi for an interview in Kabwe to get details of sexual allegations she made accusing her uncle, the Zambia National Service (ZNS) commander Lieutenant General Maliti Solochi and her family that they sexually assaulted her when she was young.
Last month, Solochi took to social media and narrated how she was abused sexually by her own family while she was young.
The family has not said anything on this issue since it happened and yesterday the police through its spokesperson Rae Hamoonga stated that it has taken interest in the matter.
“The Zambia Police Service has taken an interest in a matter that was circulated on social media involving allegations of sexual assault. According to the post on Facebook, an individual identified as Florence Solochi claims to be a victim of sodomy. Despite the seriousness of this allegation, the alleged victim has not formally lodged a complaint with the Police,” Hamoonga stated.
He stated that while the police take all reports of criminal activity seriously, it is imperative that individuals go forward to provide formal statements and cooperate with authorities in order to properly investigate such matters.
Hamoonga stated that without a formal complaint, it was challenging for law enforcement to fully investigate and take appropriate action.
He stated that the police would avail the details once they finish with investigations.
“We today April 2, 2024, the police did summon Florence Solochi for an interview in Kabwe which details will availed to the public once investigations have been concluded,’ Hamoonga stated.
He has since encouraged anyone who has been a victim of a crime to go forward and report the incident to the police.
Hamoonga stated that the police priority was to ensure the safety and well-being of all members of the community, and committed to thoroughly investigating any allegations of criminal activity.
