Defence minister Ambrose Lufuma has welcomed the Zambia National Service in the provision of private security citing what he described as their efficiency and professionalism.
Speaking during the launch of Eagles Group of Companies and it subsidiary Eagles Alert Security, Lufuma said that the coming of Eagles group of companies and its subsidiary, Eagle Alert Security is not to push anyone out of business.
“Let me stress that the government remains committed to providing a conducive business environment for both private and public sectors. I therefore wish to encourage you the invited guests to consider engaging Eagles Alert Security for provision of security services. Considering the high standard of professionalism, effectiveness and efficiency that the Zambia National Service is associated with, you can rest assured that you get value for your money,” Lufuma said. “Let me be clear on why the New dawn government will continue to encourage the defence force to engage in productive and economic ventures, in peace time, this is because they bring with them the attribute of discipline, dedication, sacrifice and efficiency which are key to achieving speedy, meaningful national progress. The twin launch of Eagles Holding Group and its subsidiary Eagles Security comes at a crucial time when government is encouraging military to participate in economic and productive ventures.”
He said with eight privately registered companies out of which two were already operational, the initiative by the Zambia National Service held immense potential of significantly boosting the overall contribution of the defence force to national agenda.
And Zambia National Service (ZNS) Commander Maliti Solochi said that contrary to views in some circles that ZNS must not participate in private business ventures this was what is happening in most developing and developed countries worldwide.
“I have heard several times in the recent past from some cycles that ZNS should not participate in private business ventures, rather that these should be left to the private sector. I wish to state the model that ZNS has embraced is followed by many developed and developing countries worldwide that leverage on the discipline, efficiency and unquestionable dedication and loyalty of the military to play critical roles in private enterprise. This can be attested by defense industries such as Zamcapital, Mulungushi textiles and Mupepetwe which started in a similar way. As opposed to being a consumer based institution, it will continue to contribute to the GDP of the country and create much needed employment opportunities for youths,” said Solochi. “To this effect, Eagles Holding Limited Group of companies was birthed and established in 2022, with the aim of engaging in profitable business ventures that would contribute to the Gross Domestic Product of the country and more importantly, create job opportunities for our youths.
“The landmark move to avail the services of our privately registered companies today therefore represents a pivotal moment in the continued transformation of the Zambia National Service to be more relevant and people centered.”
