You will see credibility coming back to Zambia soon, says President Hakainde Hichilema.

Speaking to journalists at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) upon his return from the United States where he addressed the United Nations General Assembly and held various bilateral and multilateral meetings, including a visit to the White House to meet USA Vice-President Kamala Harris, President Hichilema said his trip to the United States generated a lot of goodwill, which he said he wants to exploit to the benefit of Zambians.

He said it will always be his tradition that whatever he will do, it will be for the people of Zambia, saying his trip was more than having a meeting with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“We went out to represent Zambians, to represent their interests. It’s more than the IMF. We shouldn’t reduce it to the IMF. It’s representing the broader interests of the people of Zambia, and I believe we did that effectively, and Zambians will begin to see the benefits and will see those benefits soon,” President Hichilema said, adding that the key was to reconstruct the economy, as only then will matters like jobs and health care be taken care of. “We will not waiver from this…you will see credibility coming back to Zambia soon. And I said so before we took office that we will raise the bar.”

On concerns from the public that investigative wings are rushing to report matters to the public without exhausting them, President Hichilema said he understood the anxiety of the people as a lot was taken away from them.

He said the investigating wings will be given all the political will to discharge their mandate, saying “we will not use the political hammer.”
