All Congress Party leader Nason Msoni says President Hakainde Hichilema’s language is not befitting of a President.
And Msoni has expressed disappointment with President Hichilema’s failure to attend the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit in Zimbabwe which he said is 30 minutes travel from here.
Speaking in an interview with Daily Revelation recently on the statement by President Hichilema whilst commissioning phase 2 of the Maamba 300 Megawatts Power station expansion in Southern Province, that he would whip any one who will not follow his instructions, Msoni said the language President Hichilema used was not one expected of a President of a country.
Msoni said anyone who had sworn to uphold to protect and uphold the Constitution, should know his limitations as President, and if he was going to whip people then it was worrying.
“This is worrying. He must know the parameters he can go even as President,” Msoni said. “Already we are having these issues in the region with other countries. I totality think we need to look more inward to assess whether we can be reassured that the President is in good standing to continue in that office. Because lately, the rantings, the abuse of the former president, it’s insults that I have heard.”
He said the government needed to assure the public that all was well with the president.
“We seek assurance from the government he is in good form to continue what he is doing. Because if you are going to quarrel with everybody, you are going to threaten that l will not pay my political advisor and everybody, how can he stop that because it is Constitutional, it is legitimate that those people should be paid,” he said.
Msoni said it was disappointing that President Hichilema failed to attend the SADC Summit in Zimbabwe, despite being a 30 minutes travel away from Zambia.
“If everybody in the region is talking about you, then there is a problem. We have never fallen short of active participation in regional activities. There is no convincing reasons why Mr Hichilema failed, if he can go … if he can travel to a country more than 15 hours to go and receive his honorary doctorate, why can’t he go here in Harare where it is just 30 min?” asked Msoni.
