Patriot Front Member of Parliament Chanda Mutale has charged that the charges that have been slapped on him and his subsequent arrest are politically motivated.
Police in Serenje on Saturday arrested and charged Mutale for two counts of assault occasion actually bodily harm.
Central Province deputy commissioner of police Donald Mwandila confirmed the development in an interview on Saturday evening, adding that the Parliamentarian will appear in court soon.
But speaking with Daily Revelation on Monday, Mutale stated that the issues being raised against him are just fabricated stories.
He explained that matters being raised against him now are alleged to have occurred more than a month ago during the August 12 general polls, and wondered why it has taken the police to effect an arrest on him this long; especially that, being a Member of Parliament, he has been frequenting Chitambo district.
“They are claiming that I allegedly committed those offences in August during elections. But I came to learn about these issues I think on 24 September during the election petition hearing. And yet I have been regularly been visiting my Constituency, as area Member of Parliament for Chitambo,” explained Mutale. “So, where were they all this time? So all those issues being raised against me – the charges and arrest are all fabricated stories.”
Mutale further stressed that he is at peace and, he will allow the law take its course.
“I am at peace because those are fabricated stories that are politically motivated and, only meant to tarnish my name. Thank you for calling,” added Mutale.
