The mother of a 13-year-old girl has apprehended and reported a Ndola man, 32, for defiling her daughter.
The incident happened on August 30, 2024, around 15:00 hours in New Mushili extension, Ndola where the man had gone to visit his girlfriend.
Copperbelt province police commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba identified the suspect as Gift Kunda of old Mushili in Ndola.
Mweemba said Kunda’s girlfriend and the victim’s family were housemates.
“The case was reported by the girl’s mother. The suspect visited his girlfriend who is the housemate to the reporter and at about 15:00, his girlfriend left home, leaving the suspect sleeping in her bedroom. The victim who was home and alone at the time unknowingly went into that room as she always does and whilst there the suspect got hold of her,” he said.
He said Kunda undressed the girl while threatening to harm her if she screamed and managed to have unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
“When coming out of the room some neighbors saw her and observed that she was failing to walk properly which made them to call and ask her what was wrong and she immediately narrated what just happened. However, the suspect heard her reporting to the neighbors and managed to escape the scene before the situation escalated,” he said.
He said the girl’s mother was informed about what had happened to her daughter and went to look for the suspect.
“The mother did not report the incident to the Police there and then but went flat out looking for the suspect whom she managed to apprehend with the help of members of the public and took him to the Police where a report of the subject matter was made,” he said.
Mweemba said the girl sustained a painful private part, stomach pains and general body pains.
“The suspect is currently in police custody, and further investigations are underway,” said Mweemba.
