President Hakainde Hichilema says he is satisfied with one wife.

Speaking in Kitwe at Nkana Stadium during the National Day of prayer on Friday, President Hichilema said he had lived with one wife for many years, and he was satisfied.

“The Church should help our country to promote decent marriages anchored on religious practices, marriages that are anchored on mutual respect between husband and wife. I have lived with my wife, one wife,” he said.

“I come from an extended family and I am satisfied with one wife. I have lived with one wife for many years. I want to tell young couples there must be mutual respect in the home, there must be tolerance in the home.”

And President Hichilema said Zambia would not accept home homosexuality because it was a Christian nation.

He said marriage should be between a man and a woman.

“You agree that we are a Christian nation and we shall continue to be a Christian nation. Marriage should not be on any other ground which do not conform to our Christian values,” President Hichilema said.

He said any marriage other than man and woman was unAfrican and this was a shared common value, but not homosexuality.

President Hichilema also reaffirmed the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation.

“Zambia as President Chiluba declared shall remain a Christian nation. Mulekutika? Mule umfwa bwino bwino Are you listening)? As declared by president Chiluba Zambia shall remain a Christian nation full stop,” he said.

President Hichilema also led the people who converged for the event in praying for rains this coming season.

“People are enduring the worst drought. We pray to you, we pray in our humbleness to you, to give us strength to do it,” President Hichilema said.

“We humble ourselves our God for good rains this coming season our God. We come before you, we pray to you to feed with good rains this season. We pray to you God. We know you will listen to us.”

Zambia yesterday commemorated the Day in various parts of the country.

Here in Lusaka the prayers were commemorated at the Lusaka Show Grounds.
