Controversy over the holding of late president Michael Sata’s 10th memorial has continued with PF insisting on holding their gathering at Cathedral of the Child Jesus against government’s insistence that it will be held at Cathedral of the Holy Cross.
According to a press release issued by Secretary to the Treasury Patrick Kangwa, dated October 26, 2024, the government has informed members of the public that the 10th memorial for Sata, the fifth president of Zambia will be held today October 28, 2024.
“Members of the public are further informed that the memorial programme will commence with a Requiem Mass at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Lusaka at 09:30 hours,” he stated. “This will be followed by the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Presidential Burial Site Embassy Park.”
Kangwa has urged the nation to join in remembering late fifth president who dedicated his life to changing the lives of the citizens and the development of the country.
And in a statement by the PF yesterday, PF faction vice president Given Lubinda announced that friends of Sata had organised a Memorial Anniversary Service at the Cathedral of the Child of Jesus.
Lubinda also thanked the Catholic Church for accepting the request to hold the requiem mass to celebrate the life of President Sata.
He also invited those that may not have received government invitations for an event taking place at the Anglican Cathedral to come to the Cathedral of Child Jesus to pray and remember the life of president Sata.
Lubinda also welcomed the decision by government to hold the official service at the Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross stating that everyone had a duty to celebrate the life of president Sata including those that fought him or continue to fight his projects and his vision.
He also encouraged Zambians to wear green as the party has already recognised October 28, as “Green Day” in honour of President Sata.
Sata passed away on October 28, 2014 and served as republican president from 2011 to 2014.
