The ruling UPND alliance must rein in against the unruliness being promoted by alliance spokesperson Thabo Kawana, Colonel Panji Kaunda has charged.
Calling in to Daily Revelation, Col said he could not allow the comments from Kawana to pass without immediate condemnation.
He said Kawana was recently seen on television saying that he was aware of the people that have been having meetings, and that he had recordings of the said gatherings where people were allegedly plotting to undermine the government, and that they will be dealt with severely.
But Col Panji condemned the manner in which Kawana was addressing the matter, saying Zambians went through the same system of threatening and intimidating rhetoric under the PF, and that it must not be allowed in an administration that was calling itself a new dawn administration.
“It is one of the issues Zambians rose up against, the same cadreism. You can’t threaten Zambians when they assemble together for whatever reason, when it is their right. What Kawana has said is what some of us went through in PF, of being accused of holding dark corner meetings of threatening the President,” Col Panji said. “What they are doing now the alliance is what PF were doing to us. It’s not right to threaten people for whatever reason. That is the work of the police. If any citizen has information they should report to police.”
Col Panji continued.
“Let this government be different from the PF otherwise there is no point if the new government is doing what others were doing. I am urging the alliance not to do what PF was doing against others,” said Col Panji. “If he was told by the bosses in the alliance to do that they should stop it. They are undermining the role of the police.”
