Netball Zambia has received a K1.3 million donation from Konkola Copper Mines PLC as sponsorship for the 2024 Africa Cup Namibia is hosting in Windhoek from December 9 to 14.
Zambia are the defending champions and head to Namibia together with the mens team that will be making its tournament debut.
KCM Director – Corporate Communications Masuzyo Ndhlovu said at the cheque handover ceremony in Lusaka on Wednesday night that the mining concern was excited to continue their strategic partnership with Netball Zambia (NZ).
“We are proud to have supported NZ in the past and we are happy to recall the team’s impressive performance last year in Botswana,” Ndhlovu said.
“Our support for NZ is testament to our commitment to promoting sports development in Zambia. We believe that by investing in sports, we are investing in the future of our youth and our nation.”
NZ president Martha Sichone described KCM’s as invaluable.
“We are honoured to have KCM on board once again. Their commitment to promoting netball in Zambia is invaluable and we are optimistic that our team will deliver positive results and make our country proud,” Sichone said.
Meanwhile, the teams depart for Windhoek today and will see Charles Zulu will head the women’s team while Robina Chibebe will oversee the men’s team.
