Party for National Unity and Progress (PNUP) leader Highvie Hamududu says the party has reached consensus and has resolved to join the UPND alliance.
However, this decision has been announced after he already joined the UPND alliance, a decision that did not please some of his members among them his vice Kasote Singogo who even resigned from his position.
Speaking at a press briefing yesterday, Hamududu said all the issues which were in contention by party members had been ironed out
“At that meeting of the 12th …11th October 2024 it was agreed that we take up the intimation from the UPND among the other options. And then a committee was put in place to now iron out details of the collaboration and l want to announce to you that despite what you have heard, we are now in total consensus, because the details of the alliance, the proposed alliance with the UPND have been ironed out,” Hamududu said.
“And therefore, we are in total agreement with the national operation committee, on behalf of the party to go to the UPND alliance. And therefore, in the subsequent days or weeks, you will see the consummation of that alliance.”
Hamududu said after the party’s national operation sat to look at all the options, they settled for joining the UPND alliance.
“As a national operation committee we met to look at political options and there was a background to those political options. There were intimations from many political players or political outfits for possible collaboration or alliances,” Hamududu said.
“Both on the left and the right. So we sat to look at all options, of course the first option was to run on our own. The second option was equal, to the left or to the right and we were approached. We didn’t just sit here to say ‘can we look at political options’, as if we’re stranded, we were never stranded.”
