3 die in road accident following Kitwe derby

THREE soccer fans coming from the Kitwe derby between Power Dynamos and Nkana at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola died on Saturday night en route back to Kitwe on the Ndola-Kitwe Dual Carriageway.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewell Mweemba confirmed the incident in a statement yesterday which happened in the Maposa area at around 19h30.

“Reference is made to a fatal road traffic accident which Wusakile Traffic had dealt with on 07/12/2024 involving a Toyota Sienta registration number BCG 2545 ZM which was extensively damaged at about 19:30hrs along Ndola Kitwe Dual Carriageway at Maposa area in Kitwe in which three passengers had died on spot and the driver was not identified,” stated Mweemba.

Mweemba named the driver as Peter Kombe, 25, of Ndeke Secondary School who is currently admitted at Kitwe Teaching Hospital’s ICU.

Kombe’s condition is described as critical.

The three deceased persons all from Wusakile Township in Kitwe are Joseph Lungu, 27 of House number E 460, Osward Katebula, 28 of House number E 451 and Wedson Muwowo, 27 of House number C4-213. 

Mweemba added that four other seriously injured persons who were in the vehicle have not yet been identified. 

Meanwhile, the match ended 2-1 in favour of the visitors Nkana who have now beaten Power in their last two Kitwe derby meetings at Levy.
