The Road Development Agency ( RDA) has appointed an Independent Engineering Consultant, following the Engineering Institution of Zambia’s (EIZ) concerns over the absence of one on the Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway project.
In a statement yesterday, EIZ president Wesley Kaluba explained that the institution had been calling for the appointment of an independent engineer for several months, citing the need for unbiased professional oversight to ensure the project met the highest standards.
He noted that the RDA’s decision to appoint ILISO Consulting Engineering Limited as the Independent Engineering Consultant on February 25, 2025, was a step in the right direction.
In a letter dated March 11, 2025, RDA acting director and chief executive officer Eng. Jairos Mhango informed the EIZ of the appointment.
Kaluba commended the RDA Board of Directors and management for heeding the call and taking necessary action.
He also recommended that the Contracting Authority should consider reviewing the Concession Agreement to make provision for an Independent Engineer to be appointed for each of the Lots.
“The engagement of an independent engineer is critical in providing unbiased professional oversight, ensuring that the project meets the highest standards and mitigating technical risks,” Kaluba stated.
He emphasised that the EIZ would continue monitoring the project to ensure that the contractors adhered to safety standards and best practices.
