I am not for the idea of purging everybody just because they supported PF, says North Western Province Permanent Secretary Colonel Grandson Katambi.
And Katambi urged people in the province to put away tribalism and pull in the same direction.
Speaking with Daily Revelation, Col Katambi, the immediate past North Western UPND chairperson, said he would work with the senior civil service administration in the province, even those who were believed to belong to PF.
“You see for me I tell you my brother I am not for the idea of purging everybody just because they supported this and that. Some of them are very important and if they did what they did, they did that because of pressure and fear. So we have to explain to them to remove that fear from them so that they become loyal, they don’t work with fear. I think given that and many others I think we should be able to achieve something,” Col Katambi said. “From those that are being perceived to be PF. You know when you are a civil servant what do you do? Yes there are those that cannot change but those that will tell you I did this we move along with them. So that is what I want to do. I think there could be many others but I feel if I did that and by that I am going to meet everybody at the headquarters and let them be free to contribute and you see being an army officer…I can only do that if I meet my commanders, my senior civil servants.”
Col Katambi said he would no longer talk about politics having been appointed into the civil service now.
He also said people must work towards unity.
“And you know North Western or rural areas are different from Lusaka, Ndola and things like that. First of all we have to make sure that people come to understand about the importance of unity. They have to unite. Because you see in rural areas you have got that tribal issue, these ones pulling in this direction. So we have to explain to them that if we have to move forward we do away with these tribal sentiments,” said Col Katambi.
