The 2025/2026 MTN/FAZ Super League season kicks off tomorrow without defending champions Power Dynamos, a situation that their contenders including the 2024/2025 runners-up Zesco United will be aiming to exploit this weekend.
Power Dynamos has rescheduled its Week 1 home game against Red Arrows due to an international club friendly invitation this Sunday away in Rwanda against APR FC in Kigali.
But last season’s league runners-up Zesco get their FAZ Super League campaign underway against promoted Konkola Blades at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Zesco will be eyeing a second successive competitive win at the same venue where just last Sunday they beat Power 2-0 in the season-opening Samuel “Zoom” Ndhlovu Charity Shield final.
Interestingly, it will also be Blades’ second competitive fixture after defeating fellow promoted side Kansanshi Dynamos 1-0 in the FAZ National Division 1 Charity Shield final also played at Levy just 24 hours before the main final between Zesco and Power.
Zesco will still be missing defenders Benedict Chepeshi and Kabaso Chongo, including midfielder Kelvin Mubanga who are away in Kenya on Chipolopolo duty at the 2025.
Elsewhere, Nkana who finished 3rd are on the road to play promoted Prison Leopards in Kabwe.
Nkana will clearly miss the services of Charles Zulu who has displayed some good form at CHAN despite Chipolopolo’s underwhelming performance in Kenya.
That match will be one of two home fixtures for Kabwe sides this weekend with the other involving top-flight debutants Mines United who have a very big test when they host Mighty Mufulira Wanderers.
But Prison and Mines townmates Kabwe Warriors are out of town and are in Solwezi to face Kansanshi Dynamos.
In Chingola, two sides that struggled with relegation at the close of last season clash when Nchanga Rangers and Mutondo Stars collide at Nchanga Stadium.
To wrap up Week 1, ZANACO will be hoping to put the poor starts they have produced from the last two seasons behind them when they face FC MUZA in Mazabuka, while Napsa Stars hosts Green Eagles at Woodland’s Stadium in Lusaka.
At Edwin Emboela Stadium in Lusaka, Nkwazi new coach Keagan Phiri will start the season against the coach he succeeded Aggrey Chiyangi when his new club Green Buffaloes visits the police outfit.
