The League of African Ambassadors (LAA) has hailed the appointment of Albert Muchanga as Ambassador to Ethiopia by President Hakainde Hichilema, describing the move as an affirmation of his diplomatic prowess, and a strategic moment for Zambia and Africa.

In a statement issued from the LAA secretariat yesterday, league president Ominyi Nwanne stated that Muchanga’s return to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, was not only a reaffirmation of his diplomatic prowess, but a strategic moment for Zambia and for Africa.

“You bring with you a legacy of continental leadership, global engagement, and institutional wisdom that will undoubtedly enrich the African Union and elevate Zambia’s standing in multilateral affairs,” Nwanne stated. “Your distinguished career reflects a rare blend of experience and foresight. Among the many reasons you are uniquely suited for this role, allow me to highlight: Global Engagement: Your tenure in Brazil expanded Zambia’s diplomatic footprint and fostered vital South-South partnerships. Institutional Leadership: As Permanent Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs, you demonstrated a deep understanding of governance and legislative diplomacy. AU Commissioner Legacy: Your stewardship in Trade, Industry, and Economic Development at the AU shaped key continental frameworks. Multilateral Expertise: Your contributions to SADC and UN platforms reflect your ability to navigate complex global arenas.”

Nwanne stated that Muchanga’s our prior service in Ethiopia and the AU laid a foundation of trust and influence that now returns with renewed strength.

“Your Excellency, you are not only a national treasure but a continental asset. The League of African Ambassadors looks forward to your active participation and leadership within our growing fraternity. Your insights—such as those shared just last Friday at NIPA, where over 30 Ambassadors gathered—continue to inspire. Your emphasis on multilingual proficiency, including French and Arabic alongside English, reminded us of the protocols and competencies essential for effective continental diplomacy,” stated Nwanne. “We are especially hopeful that one of your first assignments will be to grace the official launch of the League of African Ambassadors on 14th August. Your presence would symbolize the unity and excellence we strive to uphold. As Ralph Bunche, the first African American Nobel Peace Laureate and a towering figure in diplomacy, once said: ‘Peace is no mere matter of men fighting or not fighting. Peace is present when truth and justice reign.’”

Nwanne stated that Muchanga’s career had been a testament to truth, justice and the quiet power of diplomacy, stressing that the group looked forward to his continued contribution to Africa’s collective progress.
