HH intends to play dirty in 2026 through makeshift constitutional amendments – Msoni

All Peoples Congress Party leader Nason Msoni says President Hakainde Hichilema is intending to play dirty in the forthcoming elections by making makeshift amendments to the Republican constitution for his own personal political benefits.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Revelation newspaper yesterday, Msoni said the conduct and intentions by the President to amend the Republican constitution is very troubling.

Msoni stated that important Government intentions and appointments should always be gazetted at every opportunity to ensure legitimacy of the process.

Msoni claimed that the commissioners who were appointed by President Hichilema on the Technical Committee to consult the people and draft amendments to the constitution are intended to be misused to legitimuse a clearly flawed document.

He said It was not too late for the appointed commissioners to reject the appointment to avoid soiling their own hands with a process they know very well that it was intended to cheat and hoodwink the Zambian public.

Msoni says the final product will ultimately shock the commissioners themselves as the original rejected Bill 7 document will resurface for enactment in Parliament.

But Democratic Union party leader Antony Njobvu said that the appointment of a Technical Committee to consult the people and draft amendments to the constitution by President Hakainde Hichilema was a positive move.

Njobvu said what was remaining was for government to announce the terms of reference and the time frame for the exercise as this would determine whether the process was truly consultative.

Njobvu stated that the process shouldn’t be rushed because citizens have different views on different issues that affect them and they want to be included in the constitution amendment process.

On October 02, 2025, President Hakainde Hichilema appointed a Technical Committee to consult the people and draft amendments to the constitution.
