Kankoyo member of parliament (UPND) Heartson Mabeta says for the first time the country had someone in the opposition, State Counsel John Sangwa, who he could listen to.

In a statement yesterday, Mabeta stated that he had listened to Sangwa speak when he featured on Radio Phoenix’s Let the People Talk programme yesterday.

“Its good that now we have someone in the opposition I can listen to and learn one or two things from them,” Mabeta stated. “Zambia is bigger than any single grouping.”

He outlined some of the points from Sangwa’s appearance.

“For the first time, I have managed to spend 1:30 minutes listening John Sangwa on Hot FM because he has focused more on ideologies than personality,” Mabeta stated. “Talking points where: 1. in 1964 Zambia’s Population was 3 million and Zambia’s GDP was 1 billion dollars while Kenya population was 10 million and it’s GDP was also 1 billion dollars. Today Zambia’s population is 20 million while GDP is only 27 billion dollars while Kenyas population is 60 million and it’s GDP is at 127 billion dollars. 2. He acknowledged the positive decisions made by UNIP, MMD, PF and UPND and identifying what was not done right when implementing the good policies.

Mabeta stated that Sangwa “strongly” made it very clear that there was no single person who could develop Zambia but collective efforts from all was needed.

“4. He is not advocating for a quick fix but what Zambia should achieve in the next 60 years,” stated Mabeta.
