“Let him not deceive himself by trusting what is worthless, for he will get nothing in return,” says the Holy scripture in Job 15:31
This perfectly illustrates the life of Faith Chisela Musonda, a very talented journalist, but one whose standing has now almost been ruined by the vanity she pursued.
There is an age old saying that not all that glitters is gold, however, many still seem to flow for the glitter without scrutnising the genuiness of the same glitter. Chisela seemed to be doing fine in her journalism career and hitting all the right notes in her broadcast journalism, until the dizzying glow of obsession took a hold of her.
In life it’s always prudent to aspire for modesty, and honestly work oneself towards achieving one’s goal. This should be done while actively reminding oneself that instant gratification is as fleeting as spending one’s life income on a night stand with a beautiful prostitute, or even trying to chew bubblegum on a shaky tooth.
Chisela like any other human being has got the right to aspire for a better life, and we encourage her to continue aspiring for the same, after her troubles. We hope she will use this dry period in her life to learn some vital lessons about life so that when she comes out of it she will never allow herself nor the influence of other human beings to take that vanity path again.
We are sure that this thought ‘if I had only done this’, is not lost on Chisela, especially during her bed times in that nice cozy bed(s) of hers. Chisela would today be enjoying a peaceful nights sleeps, free from the troubles of ‘what am I going to say when I appear before the investigative wings?’ if she had followed the right channels. She would still be in her now seized multimillion New Kasama House of hers, if she had only allowed herself the self-discipline the Bible she professes to love talks about.
The fact that she entered into a plea bargain which involved her surrendering the house, plus the $57,000 and K65 million to the investigative wings, means that even herself knows that those things were not properly in her possession.
From now onwards, Chisela must live with the reality that even things she acquired genuinely and those she will acquire genuinely in future will come under serious scrutiny. She is damaged goods in as far as public opinion is concerned, and she will have to go through a painful rehabilitation process to change that narrative.
Those who have followed Chisela’s career will agree that she is a multitalented person who could have easily worked her way through towards achieving whatever she aspired for. She allowed pursuit for the treasures of life to crowd her judgement, and today she is paying heavily, not only for her sins but maybe the sins of other morally bankrupt people, who may be spread across many places, be it Ibex Hill, Kabulonga, Petauke, mention them.
Life must indeed be a constant practice for modesty, and that the pursuit for vanity always yields vanity.
