The government and the OASIS Forum remained dug in yesterday over their positions for and against constitutional amendments during their meeting at State House.
Well placed sources from State House have told Daily Revelation that both sides presented their cases, with those in government arguing for the amendments, and the OASIS Forum dug in on why the same should not proceed.
“The President was fair to both parties in that he allowed them to present their case. He actually indicated that he had heard the OASIS Forum submission but time wouldn’t allow for the meeting to have a firm position on the matter, and that’s why the meeting is continuing,” sources said. “But there was clear adamance from the government on why they wanted to proceed with the position on arguments that they wanted some big constituencies to be delimitated and why they wanted more representation increased from women and youths. But OASIS Forum was also adamant on their position on why the amendments should not proceed as the whole process should be shelved until a proper one was instituted, and that there were provisions in the current constitution that could still be used to enhance youth and women participation, including having the political will on the same.”
Sources said despite the sharp divergence in the positions, the meeting was generally cordial.
“The OASIS Forum argued on why they felt the process needed to be better and why it should not be rushed, and government insisted why it should proceed. The meeting generally finished without any party ceding ground on their dug in positions,” sources said.
The President with his senior government officials yesterday met the OASIS Forum over the constitution.
This came after the recent press conference called by the President at State House, where he warned the OASIS Forum from proceeding with their earlier planned protests for November 28, 2025 as he had called for dialogue with them.
He said that no thuggery sitting behind a Church would be allowed, and that the level of hatred against him from those who felt entitled was shocking and venomous, such that he could “feel it and touch it.”
“What if you go in the streets and find somebody who is stronger than you,” warned President.
Following the presidential press conference, the OASIS Forum called off the protest in response to the President’s invitation for dialogue.
The OASIS Forum instead held intercessory prayers yesterday over the constitutional amendments before proceeding to meet with the President and other government officials at State House.
