Former Zambia midfielder and captain Andrew Sinkala says he is looking forward to making his contribution to the cause as assistant Chipolopolo coach at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
Sinkala was announced as assistant coach to Chipolopolo boss Moses Sichone in November and has joined his fellow ex-German Bundesliga export at Zambia’s pre -2025 AFCON camp in Spain.
In an interview with FAZ Media, Sinkala said he is optimistic about Chipolopolo’s prospects at AFCON that Morocco is hosting from December 21 to January 18.
“I am happy to be here and honoured to serve the nation. Even though I have transitioned from a player to a coach, my passion for the sport remains as strong as ever. I still love football. To be honest, going to the AFCON in a different role for me is not so difficult. I am happy to be here,” Sinkala said.
“After my career, I decided to stay in Germany and ever since, I have been doing some coaching things. I have worked with juniors and senior teams. Now the time has come for me to come back home and help and give what I have learnt so far.”
Meanwhile, Chipolopolo were by press time in pre-2025 AFCON friendly action against DR Congo at their Spain camp.
Chipolopolo will play their final friendly on Thursday against the Ivory Coast before leaving Spain to fly down to Morocco where they will be based in Casablanca for their opening two Group A fixtures against Mali on December 21 and Comoros on December 26.
Zambia will face Morocco in their final Group A match on December 29 in Rabat.
“We had a session with the team. The boys are responding well to training. I think by the time we head to Morocco, the boys will be ready for the showpiece,” Sinkala said.
Sinkala is a veteran of three AFCONs after playing in the 2000, 2002 and 2006 editions.
