KABWATA! A FOREGONE CONCLUSION, ACCORDING TO MWALITETA

By Patson Chilemba

We have an upper hand in Kabwata, says Lusaka provincial UPND chairperson Obvious Mwaliteta.

Speaking with Daily Revelation, Mwaliteta said said the ruling UPND was standing on firm ground, because not too long ago the Zambian people “decided to remove the most corrupt regime, a regime that had no regard to human rights.”

“And this regime from the time the people of Zambia booted them out of government nothing has changed, they are not changed. They still remain the same people. So the people of Kabwata will still give the mandate to UPND because they know our mandate runs up to five years. So we are getting it without any doubt, we are getting it,” Mwaliteta said. “PF was winning by-elections using DMMU, abuse of government vehicles, social cash transfer and civil servants going to campaign for them…today they don’t have those things. Today we are the same with them. The only difference is us we very clean than them. So they will find it very hard for them to convince the Zambians people.

Mwaliteta said the “beauty about this by-election was that we have shown the Zambian people that we have nothing to hide.”

“If things are wrong, they are wrong and if we have to take a certain decision to correct things we will do that. If it was PF even coming out on subsidies they would have hidden until the by-elections that’s when they will do that. We are going to do the right thing because we are ruling this country transparently. So for us we have an upper hand because the cadreism there will be no cadres anywhere,” Mwaliteta said. “We have an upper hand to get Kabwata and we are retaining the seat anyway. That’s when you will see the real numbers. Even some of the figures in Lusaka; Mandevu and the other areas, they were not the real figures. Otherwise, Lusaka they were going to find very very few votes.

“There will be genuine figures now because the ECZ is working independently and they are going to do their work without political interference, without cadres giving them instructions, without the commanders telling them what to do or harassing them or threatening them or intimidating them.”

The UPND has adopted Andrew Tayengwa as its candidate in Kabwata, PF has settled for Clement Tembo, Socialist Party has Tripher Ng’andu, Democratic Party (DP) has gone with Emmanuel Nyoni, and EEP has adopted its president Chilufya Tayali, among many other parties participating in the elections.
