LUBINDA IS JUSTIFIED TO SERVE AS ACTING PRESIDENT, SAYS TUTWA

Patriot Front member of central committee Tutwa Ngulube has justified the appointment of Given Lubinda as acting party president.

Following the decision by Edgar Lungu to ‘take a back seat’ from the position of party president, the PF central committee appointed Given Lubinda as acting president until a new party president is ushered into office through the General Conference.

But GEARS Initiative Zambia executive director MacDonald Chipenzi charged that the appointment of Given Lubinda as PF acting party president “smells unconstitutionalism and illegitimacy.”

But commenting on the development, Ngulube, who is the immediate past PF Kabwe central member of parliament, stated that there is nothing irregular about the Patriot Front members of central committee appointing Given Lubinda as acting party president, as the former ruling party prepares to go for a General Conference to elect the new substantive party president and other office bearers.

“Currently the secretary general, Honourable Nickson Chilangwa, is also acting secretary general. There’s no way he can act as party president,” explained Ngulube; who is also a legal counsel, told Daily Revelation. “In fact, the vice president acts in the absence of the president unless he is unable to; like it was with Guy Scott.”
