HH! PEOPLE WILL JUDGE YOU BY YOUR ACTIONS … and not the many things you say, charges Kalaba

Harry Kalaba has urged President Hakainde Hichilema that people will judge him by the actions of his government and not by the many things he is talking about.

Addressing the media this morning, Kalaba railed against the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) over their refusal to accept the DP from having their candidate file in the nominations to stand in Kabwata, citing the matter as part of the machinations by the ruling UPND aimed at frustrating the opposition and stifle democracy, “to revert the country to the one party system.”

‘Please be reminded that as we celebrate the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation today, we also have the privilege of celebrating 30 years of our multiparty system which we are committed to maintain. You can only bring us low but you can’t bring us down,” he said.

Quoting Isaiah 59:19 from the Bible, Kalaba said “even though the spirit of the enemy comes like a mighty thunder, the Spirit of the Lord will raise a standard”, saying this was not his fight alone but the people’s, and that when all is said and done they will emerge victorious.

“We further want to remind His Excellency the President, Hakainde Hichilema, that people will judge him by the actions of his government, not on the basis of the many things he is talking about,” Kalaba said, adding that Zambia was fast receding into a dictatorship.

He charged that the ECZ was becoming a player in the electoral system instead of just managing elections, wondering why they refused the nomination when throughout they have been communicating with the DP secretariat and had been informed that there was a group of “imposters”, who had been suspended by the party’s highest organ.

Kalaba argued that the court action in the DP was against himself and not the party, and that there was no injunction stopping him from operating as party president, warning that they would take the matter further.

“It’s now becoming evident that this fight is beyond what is obtaining in the courts of law,” said Kalaba. “They owe it to people to explain on why they have chosen to meddle in intra-party politics…tell the nation whose interests they are serving.”
