Kellies “Paymaster” confident in Power’s run

EX Power Dynamos striker Kellies “Paymaster” Mwaba has attributed the Kitwe giants’ winning run in April despite the pressure of playing 6 games in two weeks, to good rotational management of players by coach Osward Mutapa’s bench.

Power are unbeaten in 2026 since returning from the Christmas mid-season break after losing their last game of 2025 on December 20 to ZANACO.

The Arthur Davies side has since January 10, won 12 and drawn 2 league games plus victories in their three 2026 ABSA Cup games to accrue a 16-match unbeaten run in domestic competition.

Mwaba said in an interview that fatigue is obviously there in the team, but to continue producing wins under the circumstances is a sign of good player management.

Power is playing an average of 3 games every week.

“We will be playing Wednesdays and Saturdays until we finish the league because of our ABSA Cup programme, but one can’t deny fatigue will not be there,” Mwaba said.

“The good thing is, unlike other clubs, Power has depth of players, and the coach has faith in all of them; that is why we are managing the fatigue in the team. Every registered player cannot complain and has played so far this season because of the match congestion.”

With six league games left to play, Power are enjoying a 10-point lead over second place Red Arrows on 64 and 54 points, respectively, after 28 matches played.

“The coach has a strategy of managing all his registered players, but if we only had one small team of players we could depend on, it would have been a challenge,” Mwaba said.

“But why we are managing to get wins in almost every game despite the tight fixtures is because we have big targets in the league and ABSA Cup that we want to achieve, so every player is putting in more than 100 percent,” Mwaba said.

This afternoon Power have an opportunity to make it 15 league games unbeaten when they host 7th-placed ZANACO in an FAZ Super League Week 30 fixture at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

It is a big match for Power because Zanaco were the last team to beat them before Christmas in a match The Bankers won 1-0 at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.
