Muzala Samukonga will headline team Zambia’s 25-member side for next week’s African Senior Athletics Championships.
Ghana is hosting the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships from May 12-17.
Zambia Athletics general secretary Teddy Shimishi said in a statement that the team will leave for Accra this weekend.
”Zambia Athletics wishes to inform members and stakeholders that the national team will participate in the Senior African Championships in Ghana from 12th to 17th May 2026. The team will depart on 10th May 2026,” Shimishi said.
”Additionally, the SACA U18/20 Championships will be held from 5th to 7th June 2026. The team will depart on 3rd June and return on 8th June 2026. The event was rescheduled from May due to the Ghana competition.”
Apart from his 400 meters speciality, Samukonga will be part of the 4×400 men’s and 4×400 mixed relay teams.
The Paris 2024 Olympics bronze medal winner will be returning to action for the third time in 2026.
This is after starting 2026 with a second-place finish in the men’s 300 meters at the 2026 Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi, Kenya.
Samukonga followed this up on April 28 with a first-place finish in the men’s 400 meters finish at the Simbine Classic in South Africa.
