Israeli Ambassador to Zambia Ofra Farhi says the signing of the debt restructuring between her country and Zambia is a testimony of a shared commitment to stability, transparency and prosperity.
Speaking in Lusaka during the signing ceremony for debt restructuring, Farhi
said signing of restructuring of debt carried a significant milestone.
“Today marks a significant milestone in the long-standing relationship between the State of Israel and the Republic of Zambia. This timing is profoundly meaningful: for the State of Israel, today, May 14th, carries immense historical resonance, marking both the anniversary of our 1948 Declaration of Independence and Jerusalem Day celebrations in Israel,” Farhi said. “Just as this date symbolizes rebirth and a vision for our nation’s future, the agreement we sign today is more than a financial arrangement; it is a testament to our shared commitment to stability, transparency, and prosperity. Zambia and Israel signed a bilateral debt agreement on May 12, 2026, to restructure Zambia’s sovereign debt owed to Israel.”
She said timely payment of sovereign debt is essential to support continued economic cooperation and to strengthen financial relations between the two countries.
“By finalizing this restructuring, we are clearing the path for a new era of economic engagement. With greater financial certainty, we expect a surge in bilateral trade and private-sector investment, ultimately translating into enhanced wealth creation for the nation and its citizens,” Farhi said. “Israel’s expertise in agrotechnology, water management, and renewable energy aligns perfectly with Zambia’s development goals.”
Farhi said the agreement provides the framework for Israeli innovators and Zambian entrepreneurs to collaborate more closely.
“Access to energy and water for all citizens is not only a necessity but also a key to improved welfare and social transformation. This agreement, therefore, provides the framework for Israeli innovators and Zambian entrepreneurs to collaborate more closely, ensuring food security, social transformation, and sustainable industrial growth for both our nations,” Farhi said
“We look forward to seeing the fruits of this cooperation manifest in thriving businesses and strengthened ties between our peoples. Together, we are building a foundation for a resilient and innovative future”.
