Citizens First (CF) leader Harry Kalaba says Zambians must get worried because those in the PF – in reference to the NRPUP, want to get back into power in order to multiply the little they have personally, just like those in the “outgoing” UPND administration have done.
And Kalaba has questioned where those in the NRPUP claimed they would continue where PF left off since they were voted out of office, and those in the UPND said they had failed to deliver because of the PF.
Speaking with Daily Revelation over the weekend, Kalaba said Zambians must be worried because both those in the UPND and the former ruling party were up to no good as far as corruption was concerned.
“Why aren’t these competitors declaring their personal assets? Why are they not taking the bold stance of telling Zambians where they stand on corruption? It’s because they are also counting on corruption to come and make themselves safer, or to come and make themselves comfortable. They are counting on corruption to come and accumulate wealth,” said Kalaba, who a few months ago told Daily Revelation that he had declared K58 million in assets and K268,000 in liabilities before the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ). “They are counting on corruption to ensure that they safeguard the little they have so that they come and multiply it the way their colleagues have done, these ones who are outgoing regime of the UPND.”
He said especially for the former ruling party, they must be very careful because one of the reasons Zambians voted them out was because of corruption.
“So many issues that should have been dealt with which were never looked at. So there is a problem there. So they have to be careful. So that’s why they need to do everything right,” Kalaba said.
Kalaba said Zambians were tired of the blame game involving the PF and UPND, saying the latter claimed that they could not deliver because of the former ruling party. He said on the other hand, the PF wanted to come back claiming they wanted to continue where they left off in 2021 when they were voted out of office.
“Epobashilile pesa (Where is that where they left off)?” Kalaba asked. “Because they were voted out on the basis of where they stopped. So how can they come and continue from where they were voted out from? So they should not be wasting our time.”
And Kalaba said instead of concentrating on the economic emancipation of Zambians, either of them would concentrate on retribution, and settling scores if voted into office.
He said at the end of the day it was the country that would suffer.
Kalaba said where Zambia had reached, it needed a neutral leader like himself who would bridge the divide, saying once that happened the country would start to see real meaningful development.
He said there were people today who were imprisoned when they should not be in jail solely on account of politics.
“And in an event that ba PF came back to power, because these ones calling themselves whatever they are calling themselves, niba PF,” Kalaba said. When asked if he was referring to the NRPUP, he said: “That is PF in another form. So if PF was re-elected to come back into government they too would now want to settle scores on these guys who are in government now. Zambia can’t afford wasting time in that fashion. Zambia has to move forward and the only way Zambia can move ahead and make progress is by electing the Citizens First as a party of choice, a neutral player.”
Kalaba said CF had nothing against the former ruling party, apart from the fact that they had their time, just like they don’t have anything against the UPND, “apart from the fact that they have failed to deliver on the promises they made to the Zambian people in 2021.”
He said the UPND and PF had moved from principle to personal hatred.
