President Hakainde Hichilema says his administration attaches great importance to the Lobito railway project as a pillar of growth.
President Hichilema said this when he received an Africa Finance Corporation delegation led by its president and chief executive officer, Samaila Zubairu, for an update on the Zambia–Lobito Railway, for an update including progress on selecting the engineering, procurement and construction contractor.
”We attach immense importance to this project as a pillar of our Grow Zambia Agenda, driving investment, value addition, jobs and seamless regional trade across COMESA, SADC and the East African Community,” President Hichilema stated. “Africa trades less within itself than any other continent. The Lobito Corridor will help change this, strengthening links with Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo and advancing continental integration.”
President Hichilema stated that like the other railway projects, the corridor would shift freight from road to rail, thereby reducing transport costs and easing pressure on our roads.
