LUNGU MUST FIRST CLEAR HIMSELF … before he refers to himself as father of the nation, charges Panji

By Patson Chilemba

Colonel Panji Kaunda has argued that former president Edgar Lungu does not deserve to be referred to as father of the nation until all the allegations of corrupt and nepotism are cleared.

And Col Panji said president Hakainde Hichilema has never attacked president Lungu, but that if the ongoing investigations point towards the former president he must be punished, in reaction to former Defence minister Davies Chama’s statement that the President must let bygones be bygones and extend a hand of love “to his brother as the sole remaining former president.”

Speaking with Daily Revelation, Col Panji said whether president Lungu is referred to as the father of the nation does not make any difference, as what is important is his behavior during and after leaving office.

“If he clears himself and what we allege of corruption and all the ills of nepotism, but as long as there is that hanging around his neck then he doesn’t deserve (to be referred to as father of the nation),” Col Panji said.

He argued that president Lungu did not serve this country to the best of his ability, and that even in the case of the late fourth president Rupiah Banda, Zambians did not refer to him as father of the nation.

“Did ba Lungu serve us from the fight against colonialism?” Col Panji asked.

On Chama’s arguments that President Hichilema should reach out to president Lungu, even with the help of the clergy from the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) now that Lungu is the sole remaining president and allow bygones to be bygones, Col Panji said it was not about President Hichilema to let bygones be bygones, as the ones who are conducting the investigations are the investigative agencies.

He said President Hichilema has never attacked president Lungu, adding that it was the investigative agencies who were also looking into “the Chama’s of this world”, and that if the ongoing investigations show that Lungu was involved he must be punished.

“Only the court can forgive somebody…before that there is nothing to forgive,” said Col Panji.
