Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba people has warned Zambians that they will only be attracting blame to themselves that they repeatedly vote for wrong leaders over calls to lift former president Edgar Lungu’s immunity, saying there is no one who is immune to making mistakes.
And Chitimukulu has described the fulfillment of the UPND administration’s policy to recruit over 30,000 teachers as the first step in the right direction.
Speaking with Daily Revelation, Chitimukulu described talk about removing former president Lungu’s immunity as very bad talk.
He said removing former presidents immunities has not done the country any good over the years, starting with the removal for Frederick Chiluba’s immunity and that of Rupiah Banda, which he said proved nothing in the end.
“So we must just have ntwanikane respect for our national leaders. We must not show them disrespect and talking about removing immunity. What are we going to gain if we remove their immunity? What we are going to gain is just that we don’t trust our leaders. We bring in wrong leaders, that’s what the world thinks,” Chitimukulu said. “Because we didn’t prove anything kuli ba Chiluba, we didn’t prove anything kuli ba Rupiah Banda. We must show integrity to our former leaders. We should hold on that we trust them and so forth. They can make mistakes but there is no who is immune to mistakes.”
Chitimukulu said the country would keep removing and removing presidential immunities and thereby only proving that wrong people are chosen as presidents.
“The blame it comes on us, that we choose wrong people. So I don’t think it should even be talked about,” said Chitimukulu.
Chitimukulu said the recruitment of 30,000 was the first step in the right direction, saying the UPND administration has truly started fulfilling their promises.
“So ifi ifisheleko we must be patient. Rome was not built in a day. We very much appreciate the government effort the way it has come. So we expect that all the other things will be done in the interest of the nation. So we just urge the government to keep on doing the best they can. And we are with them, we are behind them. We support the government of the day and where we are needed we can give advice,” said Chitimukulu. Credit picture: Smart Eagles
