TURN UP IN HUGE NUMBERS TOMORROW, MPANKATA ISSUES CLARION CALL TO PF MEMBERS

By Staff Reporter

PF deputy national chairperson Emmanuel Mpankata has urged party members to turn up in huge numbers to offer solidarity to former first lady Esther Lungu for her appearance before the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) tomorrow.

Speaking with Daily Revelation, Mpankata, the Lupososhi member of parliament (PF), called out the police double standards saying this was the same police that has allowed all the peaceful demonstrations favourable to the UPND over KCM on the Copperbelt and in Luapula over the Frederick Chiluba University.

He said others did not even write to the police, saying they were just going to match in protest for the stolen funds, describing the one intended for the former first lady as “a peaceful escort.”

“Even this time they have to turn out in large numbers peacefully. We have to turn out in large numbers peacefully to offer solidarity. We are just marching in peacefully there, we won’t make noise. If they give us the parameters to reach, where to stand we will stand peacefully and wait. If Lemmy Kajoba wants to use the might of the police to disperse a peaceful demonstration it’s very unfortunate. It’s very unfortunate because that is against the tenets of democracy,” said Mpankata. “Under the constitution of Zambia people have got the right of assembly, the right to protest, or the right to peacefully show solidarity…our members I urge you to turn up in huge numbers, big numbers. If they want to use the might of the police to crush us so be it.”

Inspector General of Police Kajoba has warned people planning to meet at Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) to offer solidarity to former First Lady Esther Lungu who has been summoned to appear before the commission that they will be committing an offense of unlawful assembly.

Esther has been summoned over the 15 flats which were seized by the commission alleging that they were suspected to be proceeds of crime.
