I shall be back, says former Foreign Affairs minister Joe Malanji whose Kwacha seat was nullified today.
He said the nullification of the seat by the constitutional court did not entail the end of him politically saying he will re-contest and was confident of retaining the seat.
But asked how he would do that since the court has ruled that he did not have a Grade 12 certificate, Malanji said he successfully filed in to stand in the 2021 general elections and was deemed eligible by the Electoral Commission of Zambia. He said he has a grade 12 certificate and the courts should have been courteous enough to subpoena the Electoral Commission of Zambia and the Examinations Council of Zambia.
He said the ruling made him question why the people should trust in the courts of law, describing the ruling as an affront to democracy.
He claimed that the petitioner failed to substantiate his allegations against him and brought in other matters, arguing that any petition about his Grade 12 certificate should have been brought in seven days before the filing in of nominations.
“Like the California Governor I have told my people in Kwacha that I shall be back,” said Malanji to Daily Revelation.
The Constitutional Court today nullified Malanji’s seat, ruling that he does not have a Grade 12 certificate.
