Bowman Lusambo Nelly Mutati is a compromised Speaker and therefore the only place Zambians can seek solace is through the judiciary.
Speaking with Daily Revelation, Lusambo said that democracy and the rule of law prevailed in the Constitutional Court ruling that went in his favour and his Kwacha counterpart Joe Malanji.
He said that the Constitutional Court was above board and demonstrated respect for the rule of law and democracy, and that democracy was attained at a high price, hence the need for every citizen to defend democracy and human rights.
“To start with, we must always bear in mind that our forefathers, our parents paid a very high price for this democracy. Therefore, it is very important that we, as citizens, all of us; respect democracy and the rule of law as well as human rights,” Lusambo explained. “So what happened on Wednesday at the Constitutional Court only goes to show the respect for democracy and the rule of law by the Judiciary because the men and women in the Judiciary were above board in that matter. So democracy and the rule of law prevailed. Democracy and the rule of law won.”
He said that both the Executive and Parliament are compromised, saying the only hope that people now have is the Judiciary.
Asked to clarify what he meant, considering the fact that he was part of the current sitting Parliament just a few months ago, Lusambo said that he has repeatedly been saying the same even in the National Assembly.
“Politicians are dangerous people. And our men and women in the Judiciary should discharge their functions with integrity and ensure that their profession is respected. Currently the Executive is compromised just like the current Parliament is compromised. I was saying this even in Parliament because the current Speaker of National Assembly is compromised,” Lusambo said.
And asked if he would still consider recontesting the Kabushi parliamentary seat, depending on the outcome of the case that is pending before the High Court, the former Lusaka Province minister said that the people of Kabushi will decide; adding that in a democracy it is important to listen to the people.
“It’s not about me or the Patriot Front central committee… it’s about the people of Kabushi Constituency. The people of Kabushi Constituency will decide. In fact, in a democracy the voice of the people matters, the people should talk. So let the people talk,” said Lusambo.
