Former secretary to the treasury in the PF administration Fredson Yamba says those currently serving in office are the ones who should answer queries over the $40 million instead of $29 million for four flyover bridges.
Speaking with Daily Revelation on the revelations in the Auditor General’s report that there was an overpayment of $11 million on the flyover bridges by the PF administration of Edgar Lungu, Yamba, who served as the country’s custodian to the treasury, said queries must be channeled to the people who are currently holding office.
“You know what normally happens? Go to the people who are sitted in the offices now, they will give you the answers. Because what normally happens is that when the Auditor General’s report comes out, those people are going to start appearing before the Public Accounts Committee to respond to the queries raised,” Yamba said. “Yah! So those are the people who are supposed to talk, not somebody who is outside the system.”
But put to him that he was contacted because he served as secretary to the treasury when the disbursements were made, Yamba said that was where the mistake was being made, saying the ST does not deal with the issue of nitty gritty of payments.
“So the ST doesn’t say, now here the payment is so much. No, no, no, no, that is accounting now. So the best is get in touch with the people who are manning the offices, they have the documentation, they will be able to respond to that. That’s a fair deal,” said Yamba. “So that’s the best way to go about it. You know what would normally happen like this time everybody sits back and say…take interest when people start appearing before PAC…You can go to parliament and say when are the PAC meetings going to start since the Auditor General’s report is out? That’s where now you start getting the fillers and the subjects that you are really interested in.”
