The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) board chairperson Musa mwenye says the commission wants a holistic approach to fighting corruption by also targeting those in private sector.
Speaking during the ACC private sector symposium at Mulungushi International Conference cente said “you will note historically that the fight against corruption has targeted public sector officials leaving out officials in private sector or only using them as witnesses against public sector officials.
Mwenye further said the time to holistically fight corruption is now and there is need to work collectively in order to cut opportunities for corrupt people to practice corruption.
He also urged the private sector to collaborate more in order to form a critical mass so that the private sector is insulated and protected from negative effects of corruption.
Nontheless he commended private sector companies like Zambia Sugar and some banks who are developing a systems to detect and prevent corruption through Anti-bribery and corruption (ABC) policies and or compliance measures.
He, however, said those policies were not going to be adequate if they done in isolation.
The ACC board chairperson commended the government for declaring zero tolerance on corruption saying “Government has unmistakably and clearly declared in no uncertain terms it’s stance on corruption. As the Anti corruption commission it is our legal mandate to ensure that the government aspirations of zero tolerance to corruption is policy is attained,”
