“HOSTILE” ATMOSPHERE AT ZNS FORCES STUDENT OFFICER INTO RETIREMENT

By Staff Reporters

An atmosphere of uncertainty is said to be hovering around Zambia National Service, following the apparent implementation of the ban by the command banning officers from pursuing studies beyond the Bachelor’s degree level.

The Command has of course dismissed such assertions of banning studying beyond the degree level, although with a caveat that they were focusing on the “needs based” training for service personnel.

Defence force sources have told Daily Revelation that a female officer studying for her medical degree at University of Lusaka, was posted to a distant station in Mbala making it virtually impossible for the officer to attend her lessons which involve practicals done at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka.

“(Zambia National Service) Commandant Lt Gen Solochi posted Major Nasilele Mwenda in the sixth year of her medical degree studies to ZNS Munyezi camp in Mbala making it virtually impossible for her to continue with her studies,” the sources said.  “The commander is very heartless; how can you do such a thing to an innocent young lady who is trying to acquire the much sought after medical qualifications?”

Daily Revelation has learnt that that the other officers are fearful that the same fate will follow them, particularly if their studies are not in line with what the Commandant considers as priority for the service.

“The officer was eventually compelled to exit ZNS as she was desirous of completing her studies which she could not possibly do had she remained at Munyezi. She has since left the service, whose retirement application was speedily processed,” sources said. “There is a lot happening as even an officer who is not known to have discernible qualifications in finance, Colonel Kaisa, has been appointed as the deputy chief of Finance, actually been promoted to that position in addition to the Commander creating a position of Director Procurement where he has appointed his brother in-law. You will also want to know what has happened to the massive fish progamme in Chinyanya. It’s almost two years since that was announced yet there is nothing to show for.”
