Citizens First leader Harry Kalaba says not only is the Electoral Commission of Zambia tribally inclined towards the ruling UPND, but has known members of the ruling party serving as commissioners and chairpersons also.
And Kalaba said the UPND government pauses an existential threat to the existence of the country as people know it.
Speaking during the opposition press briefing today, Kalaba said Zambians must put aside their differences and stand with the opposition as they push back against President Hakainde Hichilema.
He said the opposition opposed the appointment of the chief electoral officer at ECZ who was dismissed from the commission for trying to influence results in favour of the then opposition UPND in the 2016 general elections.
He said the opposition must resolve to send a strong message to President Hichilema that they were ready for him.
Kalaba said even for a “vindictive and self righteous person” such as President Hichilema, slapping espionage charges on oppostion leaders like Dr Fred M’membe was inconcillable, saying it was not actually him but his foreign funders who were making decisions like on the arrest of Given Lubinda, Emmanuel Mwamba, Raphael Nakachinda and Dr M’membe, and that some of those funders were even boasting about it.
He said Zambians must reject the one party state he said the UPND were trying to bring into the country by meddling in the affairs of the PF and other oppostion parties.
He accused the UPND of trying to destroy the only remaining line of defence in Parliament in order to effect the one party state.
During the same presser, Jackson Silavwe said Zambians must not believe the UPND when they claim that they were not involved in machinations to kill the PF as they were a government that says one thing and does the exact opposite.
Christian Democratic Party leader Dr Danny Pule said if Zambians did not fear the great Kenneth Kaunda there was nothing to fear about President Hakainde Hichilema.
NDC leader Saboi Imboela said the UPND urged the UPND to listen more to what Zambians were saying.
