A two-year old toddler and his father have died while it’s mother is nursing serious burns after being struck by lightning in Kapiri Mposhi’s Lunchu area.
The duo died when the house they were sleeping in was struck by lightning in an area called around Sixteen Area around 01:00 hours on Wednesday.
Kapiri Mposhi District Commissioner, Francis Hasalama has confirmed the incident in an interview and identified the deceased as Maybin Musonda, aged 26, and his son Clifford Musonda, aged 2, who both died on the spot.
Hasalama said the third person, who is also the wife to the man and mother to the deceased baby, survived the incident and has been admitted to Lukomba Rural Health Centre where she is nursing serious burns.
“This family was sleeping and when it started raining in the area, their house was struck by lighting. A man and his two year old son died on the spot but the mother survived and she is at the clinic getting treatment,” said Hasalama.
By press time arrangements were being made through the Disaster Management and Mitigation (DMMU) to burry the bodies as they were burnt beyond recognition.
Hasalama disclosed that government through the DMMU will facilitate the funeral and burial arrangements for the deceased through the DMMU component under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
